Fittonia Hybrids 'Fittonia Pinky'

These modern hybrids offer stunning colours and compact growth for indoor plantings and are well suited for indoor gardens and terrariums. Fittonias are able to survive well under low light making it ideal for indoor and terrarium use. They are very slow growing so will remain small and compact for long periods; they will also do very well in small pots.

Water well if kept in pots but sparingly in terrariums, potting mix should be allowed to almost dry between watering's. Keep in a bright well-lit area or provide artificial light. Avoid heaters and drafty positions. Fertiliser should only be used if you would like the plants to grow. Lack of fertiliser will keep plants shorter and more compact. Temperatures above 20C will speed up growth, between 10 and 20C growth will be extremely slow and plants can be pruned to keep compact. Fittonias are hardy and will survive under extreme conditions. Keep on the dryer side in winter. Remove dead leaves.

Ferocactus herrerae

Ferocactus are a group of cacti that grow into large barrel shapes but are extremely slow growing, most reach 40 to 50cm across in 15 to 30 years. Yellow flowers appear from the centre of older plants in spring.

Position - under protected partially shaded positions outdoors; indoors only in sunny positions otherwise they will lose their nice shape and colour. Flowering will only occur in good light.

Watering - can be watered all year round and grow fastest in the warmer months, plants will survive without water for very long periods and remain compact when dry.

Feeding - 25% of recommended dosage monthly in growing period. The less fertiliser the better the shape of the plant, fertilisers high in nitrogen can produce larger plants with less colour.

Repotting - can be left to overgrow their pots, or repotted in the warmer months in almost any well drained potting mix.
